Most of our machines are the first of their kind
It is said that the technologies of small companies has a common burden: they are often excellent, but usually they are not apparent. What is surprising about Nishijima, who serves the rapidly evolving auto and auto parts industries, is the fact that the machine tools it supplies to Toyota and other automakers in the country are all made on the request of these makers. Most of these machines are ordered to make parts and components that have never existed before.
Today, human-friendly and environmentally-friendly technologies are demanded. Nishijima's cutting machine that can cut round steel of 100 mm in diameter in about ten seconds under semi-dry conditions (with only a spray of vegetable oil) requires almost no treatment of the cut end and generates almost no heat through cutting, which makes the work in the post-process extremely easy. It was such care as this, by a manufacturer that takes users' needs into account, that has now won the hearts and minds of those users.
Nishijima also manufactures other kinds of machine tools to meet the expectations of users, such as dry-process machining centers and grading machines for melons, tomatoes, chrysanthemums (the famous denshogiku whose flowering is regulated by short-day treatment) and medical instruments.
NISHIJIMAX brand by the young at heart
At Nishijima, there is no retirement system. Tokuji Nishijima, the President, comments, "The retirement system was first introduced in Germany under the rule of Bismarck. The system was created to give promotion to a few people at the expense of others and this is foreign to our company, whose policy is to compete in proprietary technologies. Our employees can work for us for as long as they wish, if their health permits."
For the company, technologies are something you pursue all your life. Staying young at heart, leads to the development of the company. This leads to onthe-job training systems where young employees work with veteran technicians and are encouraged to absorb their skills.
Nishijima's manufacturing started with generators in the 1920s. "NISHIJIMAX," its logo coined from the company name and the word "maximum," symbolizes the strategy of Nishijima, a company that wants to build on its "low-profile, but proprietary technologies." On the machines constructed at various plants, where each employee may exert his or her abilities to the fullest, the company's logo gleams with sober elegance.
